Does Shark Sonic Duo Really Work?

Vacuum cleaners function to clean floors and other surfaces. However, most conventional designs of vacuum cleaners do not thoroughly get rid of dirt stuck deep down. The Shark Sonic Duo promises to eliminate dirt effortlessly and instantly. This cleaning system claims to go beyond just cleaning carpets and hard floors as it also protects these surfaces from stains, discoloration and undesirable odors. The Shark Sonic Duo cleaning system also works on hardwood, vinyl, tiles, and even stone. The product’s dual solution design allows effective scrubbing action as well as maintains its fresh smell. Shark Sonic Duo comes with cleaning solution and cleaning pads to complement its advanced airglide maneuverability features that makes it possible to scrub floors at an average of 1,000 times per minute.

Saw the infomercial, and decided to try it. We have a carpet that’s 24 years old and has been through summers, winters, dogs, cats, and grandkids. I work as a mechanic and boots are not always clean. The wear pattern was my first target, and as I was doing the carpet thought the machine was a dud. After the dry and second vacuum I was quite surprised at the carpet. The color was almost perfectly uniform, the carpet stood back up even though it was not perfect it looked great compared from what it was when I started. The wife was quite happy. About 6 weeks later the wear area started to show again and I attacked it with the same if not better results. If it can perk up a 24 year old carpet it will make a mediocre carpet look great. I feel this is a great machine for keeping your carpet livelier for longer and it is very easy to use. I would recommend it.

I love this shark, It works best on carpets that has little or no staining. This is not a miracle shampooer it is more for maintaining your carpet.
I love it on my hard floors as it is the best.
I have RA so I deal with a lot of joint pain. I have no problem using this as well as the shark vac that we bought.

I would recommend these 2 products for those who have ongoing pain issues and for those who don’t.

I wish I never bought this shark duo. I cleaned my carpet 15 times and it got some dirt up but a rug doctor would have worked better.

Yes - If you can't afford the machine...
5 stars5 stars5 stars5 stars5 stars

If you can’t afford the machine, buy the shampoo and pre-treater! Start with the pre-treater. Simply spray it on. Next, make up a bottle of shampoo solution. (You’re told 1:7; then when you buy it, it tells you to make a solution of 1:3 if you have dirty carpet. So I use 1:5. Once it gets better, I change to 1:7.) If you think about what it does, it the pre-treater breaks up the surface dirt that causes discoloration and staining. (And yes, it WORKS! It picked up SPAGHETTI SAUCE! Long story on how that got there, LOL!) The carpet pad (the thing that works at 1,000 rotations/minute) lifts it up and traps it. This is most definitely helpful, but if you really can’t afford it yet (start saving; it will save you back-breaking work!), take a cleaning brush, probably like you do for stains now, scrub over it, and then take some microfiber towels and rub over the area. Let dry for at least 2 hours, then vacuum up. (You really should have a great vacuum for this part.)

Your carpets will look brand new anywhere you apply the products; they’re that good. My intention was to buy this system and use cheaper products on it. Nope, the products ARE the product. That pre-treater is AMAZING (just be ready to spend extra for it), and what it misses, the shampoo will grab. I HATE the idea of spending so much money, but I’m telling you, it’s worth it. I had so much fun with mine, I made up a bottle, took my machine next door, and shampoo’ed my neighbor’s traffic area. She said it made her carpet look like she’d just bought it. With dogs and little ones, she thought that would never be possible again, and she’s used it all, including steam cleaners!
By the way, just an extra tip I’ve picked up — vinegar. When you’re done with all this (and you can wait til the next day), a spray bottle with vinegar water sprayed over the whole area will help prevent the dirt from coming back.

Yes - Wow! It really works!

I watched the infomercial, and thought – what have I got to lose? It has a trial period if you don’t like it, and you can send it back.
I read reviews on it on many websites, and decided to give it a try.
We have lived in an apartment for 6+ years, and, during that time had an ailing older dog. Then a new puppy, and all the ‘mistakes’ that come with sick dogs & puppyhood. Add to that, my husband who does not remember clean his feet when he comes home, and you have carpets that need continual spot cleaning to keep them passable.
After receiving my Sonic Duo, I followed the directions to the letter, and was shocked! Like so many reviewers have said – I wish I would have taken before and after photos. The pet stains (vomit & diarrhea especially) cleaned to 98%, but in a following shampoo came out completely. I would mention here that I think you should blot up excess moisture after using the Pre Stain Treatment. It just helps the carpet dry faster.
Like the infomercial, I did clean only half of my husband’s area rug (which I would have thrown out), to show my husband the difference, and he was surprised how great it looked on the clean side. There were yellows in there that I don’t think he has seen since he purchased it over a decade ago. It now looks so good, it became a ‘keeper’.
We also have small hard floor areas (2 bathrooms, entry & kitchen), which I mop regularly, but again, it was shocking to see how clean they were afterwards, and how black the pads were.
It’s also easy to use on the stairs, and now the entire apartment looks like they put down new carpet. My husband lays on the carpet sometimes watching TV, and commented that the carpet does not smell like it used to, but does not have that shampoo smell either. No smell is great!
I do not consider myself an obsessive cleaner, but the Shark Sonic Duo is so easy to use…. it’s almost fun.
This has more than paid for itself already. I have recommended it to several of my neighbors who have area rugs they send out to get cleaned. The price they pay would more than buy a Sonic Duo, and have money left over.

Yes - Know What you are Purchasing

This is a long review but worth reading to help you understand what to expect.
I have read several reviews as well as the product info. I saw a question by one Reviewer asking about using the lower priced hardwood floors cleaner on carpets, reviews saying the machine did not clean the carpet, etc. Well, it is a surface cleaner, dirt and grime agitator. It does not suck up the deep down dirt in carpet. It loosens it up so that you can then vacuum it out after this cleaning process dries. The more frequently you do this two step, actually 3 step process for a nice clean carpet the more dirt you have pulled out. However, know that the only way to get the really deep down dirt, the stuff that is way down into the pad underneath, is by hiring a pro as their system uses high pressured, steam and extraction. Ok, back up a step. what did I mean by 3 steps? You should always vacuum your carpet prior to any ‘wet’ clean. This removes loose dust and debris, allowing the next step to do its job without getting the pad dirty from picking up the excess. The final step is to vacuum up the newly loosened up dirt from the Shark cleaning process. So, for those of you who were looking for the results to be like a professional steam cleaning process, it is not meant to do that.
Over time, dust and wet stains work their way down to the pad, and the floor under that!….Have you ever seen a badly stained carpet look beautiful right after the cleaning…only to have the stain resurface as it wicks up later? This is coming from the pad, not just the back of the carpet. If you have a wet stain that goes beyond the base of the carpet fiber, it is probably in the pad as well. If you look at the Shark Sonic Duo Carpet and Hard Floor system as maintenance, you will be pleased. If you are looking for Professional Steam Cleaning results, you will be disappointed.
Also, I have a Burber carpet with textured surface. It mats down after a while. This is one of the first things I noticed…it fluffed up again. I sprayed certain areas with heavy soiling and let that sit while I worked on the rest of the carpet. I used the cleaning pad, not the one with the ‘fingers’ for deep stains. I was very pleased with the results. I even used it on the steps! I turned the machine around so it was facing the step, sprayed by turning the machine side to side, then set it on the step to move center to edge, flip and do the other half. I was also able to hit most of the lip of the step by standing above the step, tipping the machine slightly over the edge and angled a little. There is an auto shut off that protects the unit! When aiming the unit down to use the back part of the pad, if the front hit the next step, the unit shut off! Wow, great feature to protect the motor.
I also liked the ability to not only move the unit back and forth, but to be able to easily angle it to reach a lot of area with ease. Once you have sprayed the shampoo, move slowly, not like you are erasing a black board! This will allow the unit to effectively loosen the deeper dirt, not just surface dirt. You will vacuum up the loosened dirt later, per instructions!
Know the product. If you understand how it works, you will not have unrealistic expectations. You WILL be satisfied!
This is so easy to use. I would not have any problems pulling it out to do just the steps as needed!!
Very happy! Karen

Yes - Best Invention By Shark

I have tried Swifter, Bissel Big Green, Bissel Little Green, Swifter Wet Jet, and assorted Steam cleaners from Shark and Oreck. I’m a clean freak with 3 messy cats. So, I’m constantly cleaning floors and carpet of cat vomit, foot traffic, cat litter, etc. So, I just got the Shark Sonic Duo today, and put it to the test. I’m impressed. It glides easy. It comes with a storage tray. I like that because my Bissel Big Green would leave dirty water drip marks on the carpet. Everything is color coded and easy to figure out. The formulas have a light pleasant scent. It’s quiet, which surprised me. I was thinking it would be loud. The pads are washable, so you can resuse them. I love that I don’t have to dump out dirty water after. That always grossed me out after cleaning cat vomit. There are lights on the front which help me see better what I’m doing. I didn’t have to use much fluid and everything dried quickly. My floors are shiny, and it cleaned stuck on gunk on the floor. I didn’t have to scrub, because the machine does it for you. No streaking. I had dried cat vomit in the carpet which came out easily. The only thing it couldn’t get was dried blood, but neither could my Bissel Big green. It’s small and lightweight. I’m ready to toss the mops, swifters, steam cleaners and Bissels to free up space in my utility room. This was definitely a good buy and everything I hoped it would be. I highly recommend this product.
