Does Buffalo Coin Really Work?

The 2010 $50 Gold Buffalo Tribute Proof Coin claims that with its ownership, one possesses a piece of American history. Each coin, they add, comes with an individually numbered Certificate of Authenticity. The certificate attests that each gold coin is clad in 14 mg of pure 24 KT gold, and is proof struck. The design is based on the famous artistry of James Earle Fraser’s legendary buffalo nickel. It recreates, they add, the first .9999 fine 24-karat gold coin that was struck by the U.S. government and the purest gold coin that had ever been minted. The Buffalo nickel was minted from 1913 to 1938 and was wildly popular with investors and collectors, they say. According to them, the buffalo coin was so much in demand that the U.S. government had to stop its production because there was a shortage of specially made gold blanks. The other side of the coin has the iconic Native American Indian Head in relief.
